Korean makeup style is becoming a global fad. The makeup styles of Korean actresses and young pop groups are influencing fashions in China, Japan and Southeast Asia, and American and European women too have been learning these techniques on YouTube, where hundreds of videos promise to reveal Korean beauty secrets.

These videos started to become popular about three years ago. In the early stages, it was mostly Malaysian, Filipino, Thai and Taiwanese women who posted videos on how to make up like Kim Yu-na, Song Hye-kyo and Kara, but the trend in now truly global. Foreigners seem especially interested in Korean women's natural looking skin and one-point technique, which highlights just one part of the face. The Korean style of light makeup that leaves the skin looking natural has found broad appeal.

Sears, Roebuck and Co. announced plans on Monday to sell more cosmetics brands that are normally found at the corner drugstore in 100 of its stores across the country. The new cosmetic departments will include brands like L'Oreal, Maybelline, Revlon, CoverGirl, Sally Hansen, Essie and Nocole by OPI. The company plans to hire "beauty advisers" to work in the departments to assist customers.

The brand lineup is not traditionally associated with mall department stores, but the company feels that it perfectly complements the new approach to fashion at Sears. Providing affordable and well-known brands to customers is part of the company's commitment to offer value and style in one destination. The chain is also partnering with Rockford-based manufacturer Colorlab Custom Cosmetics to open in-store shops where beauty consultants will create custom-blended cosmetics for customers.

Fall Makeup Looks

Only three days into fashion week for fall 2011 and there is already much to talk about in the makeup arena, with so many looks running the gamut from minimal to dramatic. One fall favorite that kept showing up on different runways is the nude lip. Keep it fresh by adding a hint of peach or pink, or a dash of gloss or powder to change the texture.

There were some dramatic looks for the eyes, including a smouldering smoky eye with shades of grey on the lid. Another rocker-chic look for eyes was created by lining the top and bottom lash with a black gel eye-liner and blend that with a matte grey on top. Yet another exciting eye look is very futuristic and it was created by bleaching out the brows with a full coverage foundation, and then using a liquid liner along the inner corners of the upper and lower lids.
